One of my goals for the past year was to simplify and enhance my “work setup” to streamline my work and increase efficiency. 🚀 Although it’s still a work in progress, I’ve organized my setup into three main categories: hardware, software, and location. Today, I’d like to focus on the first category, hardware.
The backbone of any IT freelancer’s setup is their computer. 🖥️ I sought a powerful yet portable device with excellent battery life. This computer will primarily reside on my desk, connected to an external display and other peripherals. However, it also needs to be lightweight enough for business trips or expos. ✈️ After extensive research and consideration, I decided to opt for the MacBook Air 13” with the M3 processor and 24 GB of unified memory. 💪 I’ve been using it for the past few months, and I’m continually amazed by the performance of Apple silicon. 🍏
To enhance my mobility, I’ve also added the Tomtoc 360° laptop sleeve for added protection while on the go. 🛡️
Another tech I’m thoroughly enjoying is the new iPad mini. It’s the ideal companion for carrying everywhere. It has replaced my Kindle, it’s perfect for note taking, can function as an external display for my laptop, and with the new processor, it runs the Affinity suite seamlessly. 🎨
Since my old phone (a 5-year-old Samsung Note) was nearing the end of its lifespan, it made sense to upgrade to an iPhone this time. 📱 I chose the iPhone 16 Pro because its larger screen size perfectly suits my needs, and the Pro Max is too big. To handle calls and music, I opted for the AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation (ANC) because I can’t stand in-ear earbuds. 🎧
To power my devices, I’ve invested in the UGREEN 65W charger, a MagSafe external battery from Anker, and several Silkland Thunderbolt 4 cables to ensure maximum power and transfer speeds. 🔌
